Frequently asked questions

What are values cards?

Values cards are a deck with one core value per card, used to sort, rank, and talk about what matters most. Coaches, therapists, teachers, and teams use them for values clarification: spread them out, discard the ones that don't fit, and narrow to the few you'd protect. This deck has all 48 values from the Values App framework, with a meaning on the back of each card.

How do you use values cards?

Start by removing every card that isn't you. Then sort what's left into three piles: essential, important, and nice to have. Narrow the essential pile to five, then rank those five by asking which you would keep if you could only keep one. The order you land on is your values hierarchy.

What do the percentages mean?

Each percentage is the share of 12,420 completed assessments whose top five included that value. Family leads at 39%; values like Status and Authority appear in fewer than 1% of top fives. Four values added to the framework in 2026 don't have a reliable benchmark yet.

Is there a printable version?

Yes. The free Values List PDF from Start With Values is designed for printing and cutting into cards for workshops, coaching, and journaling.

Is this the same as the Values App assessment?

The deck lets you browse the 48 values. The assessment does the sorting for you: it presents the values as statements, has you choose between them in pairs, and reveals your ranked top five in about three minutes, free and with no sign-up.
